The Sympatec INHALER is a versatile adapter for the investigation and the development of all kinds of metered dose inhalers (MDI), dry powder inhalers (DPI), nebulizers or more recent developments such as superfine mist inhalers (Soft Mist™ Inhaler | SMI). When combined with compact laser diffraction sensor HELOS/BR the system analyses the size distribution of droplet mists and solid aerosols with particles ranging from 0.25 µm to 875 µm.

The Sympatec SPRAYER is a versatile adapter of pump sprays or propellant gas sprays to the laser diffraction sensor HELOS for the measurement of particle and droplet size distributions. As the results are usually depending on a variety of parameters driving the spraying process, e.g. the force or the path-velocity behaviour, the distance to the measuring zone or the gradient of the spraying device to the horizon, the spraying process has to be performed under controlled conditions.

Sympatec PAQXOS succeeds the well proven WINDOX application software and incorporates our collective particle sizing expertise into a user-friendly and forward-thinking framework. PAQXOS is realised as a powerful, network-ready 64-bit software for ­Windows® environments. It serves as the joint base for all Sympatec instruments with a network interface and the connected dispersers, samplers as well as accessories for the laboratory and process environment. PAQXOS operates network wide under Windows® 11, 10 or 7. An intelligent step-by-step wizard together with the automated system detection supports the occasional or inexperienced user to get successfully started with particle sizing. PAQXOS autonomously takes care of the fundamental system settings and supports the user with built-in expert knowledge to develop a feasible measurement method and yield meaningful results.

If only small quantities of valuable products or toxic material from a few to 1,000 micrograms are to be analysed, the micro-dosing device Sympatec ASPIROS can be applied. ASPIROS is mounted instead of the RODOS funnel and can be used in HELOS or as ASPIROS/L version also in QICPIC applications.

Dispersion in free fall with Sympatec GRADIS is an option for dry, free flowing products, which do not tend to agglomerate. Especially coarser or sensitive powders and granules are gently dispersed when accelerated by gravity on their way into the measuring zone. Together with the sensors HELOS and QICPIC for laboratory applications and inside MYTIS and PICTIS for industrial applications.

In general, the acquisition of scattered light intensities of particles under thermal motion is deployed for nanoparticle characterisation (principle of dynamic light scattering (DLS)). Sympatec NANOPHOX brings Photon Cross-correlation Spectroscopy (PCCS) to life, which allows for high resolution nanoparticle size analysis in high concentrated suspensions and emulsions ranging from 0.5 nm to 10,000 nm with minimum sample preparation.

Sympatec OASIS combines powerful dry and wet dispersers in a single device. It consists of the renowned dry disperser RODOS in the lower part and a special adaptation of the well-established wet disperser SUCELL on the upper part. Both units operate fully automatic under the control of the software or manually via the control panel.

Sympatec SUCELL is an automated wet dispersion unit for particle size analysis of various types of suspensions or emulsions in the size range of 0.1 µm to about 2,000 µm. Sympatec RODOS is the original by the inventor of dry dispersion. With this breakthrough innovation, Sympatec has opened up dry applications to particle measurement technology – as early as 1982. Since then, it has been possible to dry measure powders, fibres and granules in a manner appropriate to the product , with both laser diffraction and dynamic image analysis. No other method of dispersing is anywhere near as powerful or achieves such an efficient as well as gentle dispersion from the submicron to millimetre range.

The L-series consistently evolves the strengths of the proven RODOS dry dispersion and in its most recent stage of evolution offers a particularly resistant dispersing line and a modular design. With its new handy and compact design, the disperser is optimally tailored to the requirements of HELOS laser diffraction and QICPIC image analysis. Perfectly reproducible measurement conditions are ensured for any application thanks to the automatically positioned dispersing line.

Sympatec LIQXI is the optimum choice for the wet disperser LIXELL, if a closed loop or one-shot application is required for fine particles in a range from 0.1 µm to 500 µm measured in suspension. LIQXI was specially designed to operate with micro cuvettes and tiny gap widths down to 30 µm as required by the lower measuring ranges of QICPIC.

Due to its open and modular design Sympatec LIXELL represents together with the image analyser QICPIC the most versatile measuring system over a particle size range of 1 µm to 2,000 µm. With different models of cuvettes and accessory parts numerous applications starting at a sample volume of 20 ml can be realised. Depending on the set-up LIXELL can be operated in flow-through or circulation mode. Chemically resistant sealing and tubing materials are available for aggressive media.

Sympatec FIBROS is a dry disperser specially designed for the gentle separation of dry as well as heavily entangled fibre collectives and the subsequent analysis with QICPIC. Fibre parameters such as length, diameter and straightness can be measured automatically without the time consuming manual separation of the individual fibres. High efficiency and throughput of the separation is obtained by the well-known and proven method for cotton spinning “combing and carding”.

The sampling with Sympatec MIXER is used to collect homogeneous and representative analysis samples from process stages with high mass flow rates of dry, relatively narrowly distributed bulk solids, e.g. during the grinding of cement or anode coke. With the aid of two-stage sampling, it is possible to realise extreme division ratios that extract suitable analysis samples in the range of a few grams from product mass flow rates of over one hundred tonnes per hour for real-time laser granulometry with MYTOS. Sample collection at mass flow rates of up to 400 kg/h are realized in a single step directly with MIXER.

The compact Sympatec SCREW SAMPLER is particularly well suited for dry, powdery products that have restricted flowability on account of adhesive or cohesive properties. Here, the extraction of a meaningful analysis sample – under usually inhomogeneous transport conditions in the downpipe – requires the collection of a highly representative cross-section in the process line.

The compact single-point sampling probes are particularly well suited for dry, disperse products that tend to have a narrow grain size range and flow through the pipe cross-section with a preferably uniform distribution during transport. With an installation height of just 150 mm, they are integrated via a weld-on stud with clamping flange directly in the product-bearing process line. With the RODOS dry dispersion used in the downstream on-line analysis system the necessary vacuum for extracting an analysis sample is generated. Accordingly, the probes can be used in combination with both the MYTOS laser diffraction systems and the PICTOS image analysis systems.

The Sympatec SMACTOR with universal rack is a versatile adapter designed to measure particle and droplet size distributions using the HELOS/KR-Vario laser diffraction sensor of a wide range of bottle types. As the results are usually depending on a variety of parameters driving the spraying process, e.g. the force and the path-velocity behaviour, the spraying process has to be performed under controlled reproducible conditions.

Dynamic sampling with Sympatec TWISTER achieves this equal weighting by scanning the entire pipe cross-section on a spiral path with a constant speed. The sample collected in the process is representative of the entire product stream and is continuously fed to the measurement system for analysis. In combination with the laser diffraction system MYTOS or the image analysis system PICTOS and the integrated RODOS dry dispersion, a fine-tuned system with sampling, dispersion and sensing is formed. It provides real-time determination of meaningful and reliable information about the actual characteristics of particle size or shape in the process.

Sympatec QUIXEL is the advanced wet dispersing system suitable for particle size analysis on all kinds of suspensions and emulsions in the size range of 0.1 µm to 3.500 µm. Its innovative, tubeless design enables very fast measuring cycles. Even high density particles such as 3 mm ball bearing beads made from stainless steel are safely transported in water through the flow through cell without the need for using special liquids of high viscosity. The wet dispersion process is supported by a built-in ultrasonication unit, which is adjustable by software from 0 to 60 W in 1% steps.
